Austria, The Land of Wienerschnitzel, Tafelspitz and Sachertorte
I have arrived in Austria in my “World Cooking Trip”. The Austrian cuisine varies greatly from region to region, so I focused now mainly on Vienna and the typical food in this region. Vienna has a special place in my heart. It’s just a hop and a skip away from my hometown Győr. Vienna brings up great memories from my childhood. Not only because of the historical connections to Hungary, but also because of the fantastic family visits in the city. My father worked a lot near Vienna and I have always begged him to take me with. The business meetings were totally boring, but afterward, we always went to town to get something to eat and that was the main reason I always wanted to join him on his trip.
My favorite was the Wienerschnitzel with potato salad. I could never fully eat it because it was so big. The Austrians have brought the Schnitzel to the highest level, it’s just the perfection. The most important thing when it comes to Wienerschnitzel, that you take a high-quality piece of veal. Then you cannot go wrong. Finally, there was always a dessert, which was the highlight of my day. Waiting for them has always paid off – the Sachertorte is just the perfect piece of cholate heaven. The way the delicate apricot jam and crunchy chocolate melt in your mouth is just divine. The Sachertorte is still my favorite cake!
